Coarse Woody Debris
Fallen Fremont cottonwood log observed on trail — significant coarse woody debris in the riparian zone. The exposed interior shows swirling fibrous wood grain characteristic of cottonwood.

Fremont cottonwood fully leafed out and simultaneously dropping cotton — the fluffy seed dispersal structures carried on the wind. The deeply furrowed, corky bark of a mature individual visible.
